Girls Pint Out has chapters throughout the United States. Each chapter is as diverse as the ladies that run it. To celebrate our exceptional  chapters and their diversity, Girls Pint Out is posting a series of blog posts that highlight each state’s unique craft beer culture. Texas is the third in this series. We have a lot of ground to cover in Texas – so we are breaking this post into two parts.

50states Texas

Hey y’all- and welcome to the 50 States of beer, Texas edition! We currently have 2 active chapters, San Antonio and Houston, with more in the works.

In the next few months we have some awesome events set up-  you can always find them on the events calendar at the GPO website!

The Texas craft beer scene is booming right now! Every week we are seeing new brewery approvals and label approvals for craft coming in from out of state. There is also a plethora of great beer from here- 16 of them even won medals at GABF this October!

It’s a big state, so I’m just going to cover a handful stops I highly suggest you make in Dallas/FortWorth, Houston and Austin and San Antonio. We’re breaking this up into two parts with part one cover Austin & Houston!

Austin, Texas

Breweries:

Picture1Jester king
Tasting Room Hours
Friday: 4pm-10 pm
Saturday: Noon-10 pm
Sunday: Noon-6 pm
Jester King is a family-friendly destination setting on outskirts of Austin with a few other attractions nearby. On the same lot you can find Stanley’s Farmhouse Pizza,  and just down the road is Argus Cidery and the soon-to-open Last Stand Brewing Company. On premise at Jester King you can buy bottles of their beer to go. They also have a wonderfully curated bottle list of other craft beers from the US and all over the world.

Picture3Live Oak Brewing Company
Live Oak Brewing Company is only open to the public for brewery tours. Their tours are  limited; if you are interested, check the website. Because of the Texas’ weird beer laws, like a few other breweries in Austin such as Hops & Grain, you cannot purchase beer on premise at LOBC, but you can sample for free! Rumor has it they are getting the ball rolling on their new facility, which will hopefully mean packaged beer from this draft-only brewery!

Thursday 5-9 pm
Friday 5-10 pm
Saturday 1-7 pm
Sunday 1-6 pm.
ABW is another family-friendly brewery and always has a great food truck out for fans to enjoy! While they are only distributed in Texas, you may have heard of their 99-pack of beer. I can assure you that is in fact a real thing!

Retail/ restaurants in Austin Texas:

Whichcraft– a dog friendly, strictly craft store in the heart of sola. Owner Jody Reyes is always willing to help you pick the perfect brew. If you join the mailing list they will keep you up to date on beer releases, as well as free in-store samples. They have a beer rescue program that’s genius for those days that you can’t make a decision.

Brew & Brew– the Wright Bros. just celebrated their 1st anniversary and it’s looking like a lot more good things are to come! With over 30 draft lines, tasty sandwiches, and superbly made coffee beverages, this is the best place to start and end you craft beer adventure day. End note: pastries they bring in are from Easy Tiger and are amazing. Easy Tiger has quite the selection of their own.

Salt and Time– Satisfying for even the most picky epicurean, Salt and Time boasts exceptional cuts of meats folded into artisan breads or daintily laid across cutting boards accompanied by cheeses and greens, along with a cornucopia of local and imported craft beers. They have a wonderful brunch, and the whole lot of them are excited to share their amazing offerings with you!

Hi Hat Public House– Taco Tuesdays at the Hi Hat. Need I say more? Well I will! These guys have created a quirky little bar filled with comfy seats and good beers to pick from. Habeeb is a gem who will gladly help you pair a beer with something from their delicious food menu (shrimp and bacon mac’n’cheese!). With their ever changing draft beer options and the daily menu specials, you will leave already planning your next visit.

Craft Pride– The name says it all! Craft Pride is on Rainey Street is in downtown Austin and their 50+ taps lines are filled ONLY with Texas-made beer. They have a bottle shop in between the bar and back patio to host a delicious Chicago style pizzeria trailer. If you’re living in Austin and studying for your Cicerone exam, check this place out- they hold study sessions attended by some of Austin’s most craft beer savvy!

Th – 4:30 – 8:30 pm

What’s a Karbach? It’s the street where it’s located – which is also where the owners originally owned a beer distribution company! Oh and it’s also a town in Bavaria – I guess that’s important, too!

Picture8No Label Brewing
Friday Hangout from 4-7 pm
Sat – 12–3pm
No Label is known in Texas for making some incredibly interesting beers such as the Don Jalapeno and resurrecting Gilley’s Premium. You don’t have to be an Urban Cowboy to enjoy their wonderfully approachable line up of brew though. GPO recommends you get your hands on whatever seasonal you can find (it’s hard because Houston drinks so much!) along with their year-round brews which are readily available throughout Central Texas.

Picture10B-52 Brewing
This Dog-friendly, growler to-go filling brewery is new to the scene in Houston, and the community is pretty happy to have them around! You can visit B-52 on Saturdays from 12pm-4pm, and we highly recommend that you do!
